Searching for intergalactic star forming regions in Stephan’s Quintet with SITELLE

چکیده

Based on SITELLE spectroscopy, we studied the ionised gas emission for 175 H$\alpha$ regions in Stephan's Quintet (SQ). A detailed analysis is performed of star formation rate (SFR), oxygen abundance (O/H), and nitrogen-to-oxygen ratio (N/O) SQ regions, to explore provenance evolution this complex structure. According BPT diagram, found 91 HII, 17 composite, 7 active galactic nucleus-like SQ. Several are compatible with fast shocks models without a precursor solar metallicity low density (n=0.1 cm$^{-3}$), velocities between - 300 km s$^{-1}$. We derived total SFR (log(SFR/M$_\odot\,yr^{-1}$=0.496); starburst B provide 28% 9% SFR, 45% comes from radial velocity lower than 6160 For reason, assume that material prior collision new intruder (NI) does not show high therefore was apparently quenched. When considering integrated whole NI, both zones have consistent those obtained SDSS star-forming galaxies. At least two chemically different components cohabit where, average, (v$>$6160 s$^{-1}$) values O/H N/O (v$\leq$6160 s$^{-1}$). The line ratios, O/H, southern debris region northernmost tidal tail, belonging outer part highlight presence inner-outer variation some ratios along NI strands young tail south strand. Finally, outside galaxies because interactions dispersed peripheral zones.

Turbulent Molecular Gas and Star Formation in the Shocked Intergalactic Medium of Stephan’s Quintet

We report on single-dish radio CO observations towards the inter-galactic medium (IGM) of the Stephan’s Quintet (hereafter SQ) compact group of galaxies. Extremely bright mid-IR H2 rotational line emission (L(H2) ≈ 1035 W) from warm (102−3 K) molecular gas has been detected by the Spitzer satellite in the kpcscale shock created by a collision between a galaxy, NGC 7318b, and NGC 7319’s tidal ar...

Age spreads in star forming regions?

Abstract. Rotation periods and projected equatorial velocities of pre-main-sequence (PMS) stars in star forming regions can be combined to give projected stellar radii. Assuming random axial orientation, a Monte-Carlo model is used to illustrate that distributions of projected stellar radii are very sensitive to ages and age dispersions between 1 and 10Myr which, unlike age estimates from conve...

Chemical processes in star forming regions

This paper will review the basic concepts of gas–phase and grain surface chemistry of dense molecular clouds, where low mass and high mass stars form. The chemistry of cold pre-stellar cloud cores, where molecular freezeout and deuterium fractionation dominate, will be presented. Then, following cloud evolution after protostellar birth, hot core and shock chemistry will be discussed in view of ...

Hypersonic Molecular Shocks in Star Forming Regions

Shocks are everywhere in the Universe, and with hindsight it is easy to see why. In the John Dyson era one might be tempted to ask if indeed there is anything else? Such a coherent view of so much of the goings-on between the stars has been imparted by John and his colleagues that most interesting phenomena now have a Dyson – or Dyson-style – similarity solution to describe them. But the discov...

Water in star- and planet-forming regions.

In this paper, we discuss the astronomical search for water vapour in order to understand the disposition of water in all its phases throughout the processes of star and planet formation. Our ability to detect and study water vapour has recently received a tremendous boost with the successful launch and operation of the Herschel Space Observatory. Herschel spectroscopic detections of numerous t...
